Originally only used on Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, virtual queues are becoming more common and could continue to be used on more and more attractions while the FastPass system is paused. Before you arrive, know how to join virtual queues, when they're used and any restrictions in place so that you can experience every attraction possible. |
Think of virtual queues like a FastPass without a definite return time. It holds your place in line and lets you know when it's your turn so you can return to the attraction and wait for a much shorter period of time. They're not as easy to get as FastPasses but are completely free and open up walkways that would normally be crowded with guests.
Currently, there are 3 attractions that use the virtual queue system but it doesn't work exactly the same for all of them. It's important to remember that you are only permitted to join virtual queue (or "boarding group") for each attraction once per day so this is not something that will help you experience rides over and over again.

Rise of the Resistance & WEB Slingers
The virtual queue for both Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance (Galaxy's Edge) and WEB Slingers (Avengers Campus) operate the same. Boarding groups become available twice a day:
Boarding groups fill up fast and are the only way to experience these attractions currently. You are not permitted to be in a boarding group for both Rise of the Resistance and WEB Slingers "at the same time" meaning that you have to pick one to join at 7am and the other to join at noon (clarified by CMs - this is the only way you'd be able to do it anyway, but whatever). |
Indiana Jones Adventure
This is a relatively recent addition to the virtual queue system and is only intended to be used when needed. Always check the app to see whether the stand-by line is available or if they are only utilizing boarding groups. Once they decide they need it, boarding groups are made available multiple times throughout the day so it's important to check back regularly to increase your chances of snagging a spot. It's typical that Cast Members end the day by closing the virtual queue and using the stand-by only.
Joining a Boarding GroupBefore you try to join a boarding group, you'll need to download the Disneyland app and create a free Disney account. Once you have that set up and you're logged into your profile on the app, follow these steps to get in the virtual queue:
