Have you ever wondered what it would be like to build your own lightsaber? To choose your pieces and put them all together to create an elegant weapon that's all yours? The Gatherers at Savi's Workshop inside Galaxy's Edge are now here to help you do just that! It certainly is a premium experience and one that comes with a lot of questions, so peruse this complete guide so you can be ready to answer the call and head to Savi's Workshop. |
How Much Does it Cost to Build a Lightsaber?
It's not a cheap experience - it costs $199 per builder. No "credit reductions" (discounts) apply although you can still use gift cards.
Is it Worth it?
Yes, but only if you're a Star Wars fan. If you're not the biggest fan in the world, it's probably better that you stick with the far cheaper experience at the Star Trader in Tomorrowland. You're not just paying for the materials but for the overall presentation/experience that comes along with it. It's important to keep in mind that unlike the Star Trader lightsabers those built at Savi's are fully metal, extremely durable and meant as both a toy and collectable.
Let me put it this way - I had no intention of building my own lightsaber but Dan did so I tagged along with him when he went to Savi's Workshop. The next day I had to go back to do it myself because it was that incredible!

Are Reservations Really Required?
At this point, yes. Reservations open up online beginning at 7a for that day's slots only. A credit card is required to reserve your spot but will only be charged if you do not show up for your assigned time.
IMPORTANT: Only make reservations for those who will be building a lightsaber themselves. The reservation system does not care about guests, only builders.

I'm the Only One Building in My Group. Do I Have to Go by Myself?
No. Each builder is permitted to bring up to 2 guests with them for the experience. They are only observers and need to stand behind the builder most of the time but you do not need to be alone.
What Kinds of Lightsabers Can i Build?
When you make your purchase, you will choose one of 4 styles of lightsabers to build which will determine the parts the Gatherers give you inside. They each have distinctive features and unique qualities:
|
- POWER & CONTROL - These resemble Sith lightsabers. They are heavier and meant to draw attention to themselves with clean lines and a polished look. Most pieces are silver with a lot of black and some red. There are grip options with rubber to give the bearer more control as they fight.
- PROTECTION & DEFENSE - These are meant to resemble lightsabers for temple figures. They are highly decorative and meant to be a symbol of those who bear them, like Jedi temple guards. Pieces are mostly silver with gold and bronze. They are ornate with decor that extends beyond the cap/end or ancient text.
- ELEMENTAL NATURE - These are meant to resemble some of the earliest lightsabers ever wielded. They are not particularly elegant but made from natural materials like bantha hide or rancor teeth. (NOTE: This is the most popular style chosen.)
What is the Experience Like?
Once you choose your desired style of lightsaber, you'll be given a pin to place over your heart which will allow the Gatherers inside to know your choice. As soon as everyone is inside, the Gatherers introduce themselves as those driven by the Force to "gather" pieces from across the galaxy in order for people like you to construct your own lightsaber and add hope and strength to the Force. They guide you through each step of the process and provide valuable instruction to better understand the true power behind these weapons. First, you must choose a kyber crystal to power your lightsaber: blue, green, violet or red. Your choice will determine the color of your blade. Next you assemble the hilt using the pieces in the style you have already chosen. Each chassis is the same and will hold your kyber crystal. Over it you will choose:
After they have inspected everyone's work, the Gatherers then place each hilt in a kyber crystal stabilization chamber and the grand finale is about to commence! It ultimately depends on how quickly everyone puts theirs together, but the overall experience lasts between 15 and 20 minutes. |
Can I Get Extra Parts?
Yes. Extra hilt pieces are available at the registers outside Savi's Workshop and sold individually so you could even mix and match styles if you would like. Extra kyber crystals are available inside Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities near the exit of Savi's and will change the color of your blade and the sounds your lightsaber makes. The only part not available separately are the chassis.
What Do I Get With My Purchase?
Each builder leaves Savi's Workshop with a collectable pin relating to the style of lightsaber you built, a hilt with kyber crystal, a blade and a sheath to carry it around the parks easier.
