Overall Rating: 3 StarsOne of very few quick-service dining options in New Orleans Square, the French Market offers a mix of traditional New Orleans cuisine and American favourites in a charming corner cafe atmosphere. It's one of those restaurants that can give you a table-service feel for quick-service prices. |
Atmosphere: 3 Stars
The French Market is located next to the Haunted Mansion and the New Orleans Square Railroad station bordering a small garden area. Although the outdoor seating area is rather small the location makes it appear much larger while remaining quaint. It has the complete air of a corner cafe in the middle of the French Quarter, but if you go at the wrong time of day there will be almost nowhere to sit outside so be prepared to send someone to find a table while you get the food.
Food: 3 Stars
They offer some traditional Louisiana faire such as jambalaya and gumbo, but mostly they have more standard American cuisine with a cajun twist. For example, the French dip is topped with onions and served with cajun spiced potato chips - a great pairing! They have some unique desserts as well, something not offered at most quick-service restaurants in Disneyland. Usually they have the same 4 or 5 options, but the French Market has choices such as bread pudding or banana cheesecake. One of my favorite seasonal offerings has been the wedding cake complete with blood spatters (don't worry, it's just cherry sauce).
Value: 4 Stars
The food is not the most amazing I've had and it can be difficult at certain times to get a fantastic seat, but for what you get the value is terrific! You'll pay a little bit more for the unique table-service like entree and dessert options but nowhere near as much as nearby establishments, like the Blue Bayou. Even if you're traveling on a budget you can afford to splurge one meal and come here and it will be worth your dollar.
